Hyatt/Playa ponder more for Jamaica and Mexico as merger talks proceed

  Hyatt Hotels is in talks to potentially acquire Playa Hotels & Resorts – the company which purchased five Jamaican hotels from Jamaican company Sagicor -with the corporate targeting expansion of its presence in the all-inclusive resort market across the Caribbean and Mexico. Shares of Playa Hotels went up Monday after the hotel operator said it is in discussions to be acquired by Hyatt Hotels. An exclusivity agreement Playa and Hyatt signed will run until either a deal is reached, or through Feb. 3. Playa operates 24 resorts across Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico, including collaborations with Hyatt, Wyndham, and Hilton.        Management at Pulse Investments Limited indicates that the company is currently pursuing both rentals and sales for increased earnings in its real estate division.  Pulse Lofts at Villa Ronai consist of sixteen of the 66 residential units, collectively known as Pulse Lofts. These are now on the market for sale as a gated community. These are studios, 1- and 2-bedroom units. Management notes in the company’s new annual report that while some of these units may be retained by the company for guest rentals, some will be sold to increase liquidity and / or reduce debt.
