Port Security Corps plans massive recruitment drive for border control in Jamaica


Ports Security Corps Limited (PSC) in the Public Bodies Report for the new financial year, 2025 to 2026, disclosed plans to recruit 250 new security officers to strengthen staffing levels, optimize operations, and enhance border control in Jamaica.

It currently has a staff complement of 685 and hopes to grow to 935 in 2025 to 2026 fiscal.

The PSC was incorporated in 1989 under the Companies Act of Jamaica, with the mandate to protect the Island of Jamaica’s ports of entry, tourism product and export trade .

The Company’s mission is to provide reliable services at seaports and airports through the development and deployment of a professional cadre of officers.

The higher numbers are to support effective management of the rising traffic at Jamaica’s air and seaports. Management stated, “This initiative will ensure compliance with international security standards while improving the overall efficiency of port operations.

“ PSC remains committed to enforcing all regulations governing the security of Jamaica’s air and seaports. In alignment with International Ship and Port Facility Security standards and the International Civil Aviation Organization security guidelines.”

The company is focused on improving levels of safety and compliance to protect the nation’s borders.

It will continue measures, management said, to “Maintain a modern, well-equipped border security organization by investing in the expertise, manpower, and policies required to effectively secure Jamaica’s ports.

The PSC projects a surplus of $24.52 million which would be an improvement on 2024/25 where a deficit of $9.03 million was experienced.
