Flights between Jamaica and Dubai to begin
Jamaica’s tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett announced the news and said the new flights place the Caribbean country “at the centre of a new wave of travel connectivity.”
“This is one of the great accomplishments of my tenure as minister,” Bartlett said.
“We began discussions with Emirates before COVID, and now we are finally seeing it come to fruition.”
The new flights will depart from Dubai and transit through Germany, before landing in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The future aim is to have a direct nonstop flight from Dubai to Jamaica.
“Air connectivity between Jamaica and the Gulf Corporation Council region, which includes Dubai, has been a major strategic push to position our tourism sector for further growth. The proposed air service represents a landmark moment for Jamaica’s aviation and tourism sectors, offering unprecedented global access and potential for economic growth. Emirates’ strategic application signals a major commitment to establishing Jamaica as a premier international destination,” Barlett said.
With the new flights Bartlett said it is a chance for Jamaica to benefit from tourism, cultural exchange and also potential investment opportunities with the Middle East, Asia and beyond.
“Jamaica will now position itself as a leading destination in the region for multiple markets around the world,” Bartlett declared.
“This is an exciting time for Jamaica’s tourism and highlights the importance strategic partnerships over the long term. We will now be able to tap into this very lucrative market to attract more high value visitors,” said Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Senator Delano Seiveright.
Jamaica welcomed a record two million visitors during the first five months of 2024, according to its Ministry of Tourism.
That was more than ever reported during the period of January to May.
Jamaica’s final tourism data for 2023 also notes a record-breaking 4.1 million visitors and 25.5% year-over-year increase in total visitation compared to 2022.
“We have nurtured and maintained strong relationships with our partners in this region and this announcement is one of the fruits of our labour. Jamaica is ready to welcome more visitors from the region who I am sure will fall in love with our authentic hospitality,” said Director of Tourism, Donovan White.
